1ère Année

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to general and organic chemistry with direct applications to the medical and dental sciences. It aims to develop a solid understanding of atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, kinetics, organic reactions, and solution chemistry — all essential for interpreting biological and physiological processes at the molecular level.

Through lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions, students will explore the properties and behavior of matter, learn the principles governing chemical and biochemical reactions, and apply quantitative reasoning to clinical and environmental contexts. Special emphasis is placed on the relevance of organic chemistry to biochemistry, pharmacology, and materials used in dental practice.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Understand and apply chemical and organic principles to biological systems.

  • Analyze and predict organic reaction mechanisms and equilibria in aqueous media.

  • Correlate chemical phenomena with physiological and pathological processes.

  • Handle basic laboratory techniques safely and accurately.
