By the end of this session, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the general characteristics of lactic acid bacteria (morphology, Gram reaction, and oxygen requirements).
  2. Recognize typical colony morphology on selective media (e.g., GYC, Carr agar).
  3. Perform microscopic observations to identify cell shape and arrangement.
  4. Conduct key biochemical tests for identification (oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid, catalase test, growth on specific carbon sources).
  5. Interpret laboratory results to differentiate acetic lactic acid bacteria from other Gram-negative bacteria.
  6. Apply aseptic techniques and laboratory safety procedures during bacterial manipulations.
  7. Record and analyze experimental observations accurately.
  8. Communicate findings clearly using appropriate microbiological terminology.
